Today I saw my colleagues table have a 3D printing model which is the city model. The model is over 500 piece high-rise building block with the terrain model. The model is mainly emphasized the new development and study how the surrounding building would be impacted. Nowadays the paper plan may not be good enough!

Although I haven’t opportunity to attend the AU2009, I can attend the virtual classroom at anytime, anywhere and any platform. I choose to sitting in training lab to see these virtual classes. I'm sure that you can find many interesting topic and impressive technology into the Autodesk University.

I would like to share what I found in the virtual class of AU 2009 last week.

Taiwan's CT has published a number of thread, which is mainly mentioned how is the transition from the traditional mapping to nowadays engineering GIS. This is the good resource & moment to let me to review these topics.

The new subscription advantage pack for AutoCAD Map 3D - url has been released for a while, which have a new functionality for working with point cloud data. I have tried the building point cloud, which is in XYZ file format. The file size is over 1GB.

Today LiDAR technologies are becoming more common, as it is cost-effective, rapid operation, large area coverage… etc. This technology replaces the traditional surveying, particularly stereo imagery and stereo plotter. It’s able to work, if the area is not easy to touch or the building shape is complex. Base on my understanding, this technology has been applied in Hong Kong for a long while.
