AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 is just around the corner. This is so exciting, the LiDAR data can be manipulated in the CAD platform software e.g. AutoCAD 2011, AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 & AutoCAD Map 3D 2011.

Now the new data source - LIDAR data sets/ 3D laser scanning can be imported and visualized within AutoCAD Map 3D software. Also you can stylize point clouds by LAS classification, spatial extents, elevation, or intensity. Point clouds can be used to create DEM surfaces, make measurement or new 3D features using standard AutoCAD drafting tools.

Project Butterfly is an Autodesk Technology Preview that enables AutoCAD® users to edit and collaborate on AutoCAD drawings through a Web browser. With Project Butterfly, AutoCAD users can share and work on DWGTM files with colleagues and clients from any computer with an Internet connection.

The Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (Hong Kong Region) have a seminar in March 18, the topic is the "Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) in HK". I'm looking forward to learning those topics from Government, Private sector and Academe.

Although I haven’t opportunity to attend the AU2009, I can attend the virtual classroom at anytime, anywhere and any platform. I choose to sitting in training lab to see these virtual classes. I'm sure that you can find many interesting topic and impressive technology into the Autodesk University.

I would like to share what I found in the virtual class of AU 2009 last week.

Autodesk Inc. has announced the acquisition of certain assets from BOSS International, Inc. to further expand its water resources analysis capabilities for the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry.

It seems that AutoCAD Civil 3D will be extended to conducting simulation and analysis of design rather than only model-based design solution.
