Autodesk Civil 3D is the object-oriented software architecture defines point, surface, alignment, grading, section, profile and corridor model as an intelligent object.

Various elements can be dynamically linked together so that a change to any one elements in the Civil 3D will propagate throughout the model. For example, if the survey observations is updated, the surface, vertical profiles, grading, corridor models, pipe networks, reports(e.g. quantity takeoff) and tables are all updated. (Notes: It can be draw back when the elements was wrong delete or modify.)
