Geospatial Database @ Civil 3D
Generally speaking most people think database is difficult to access, expensive, not easy to integrate, high-end machine.... Today Opensource is the main stream in IT industry. Steve Job have the golden words "This is life in the technology lane". Everyone was talking about opensource, ex. Linux, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MapGuide, OpenOffice, .... it seems everyone can easy to get it. It benefits both user and vendor.
Today Autodesk Geospatial Software (AutoCAD Civil 3D & Map 3D) can provide us one-stop geospatial database solution.
SDF (Spatial Data File) can be used for communicating the database Mysql 5.0, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 & 2003. Also the Oracle Spatial can also be linked and provides read & write functionality. The FDO provider for ArcSDE can also be provided and linked to Civil 3D / Map 3D.
Bulk Copy can provide us the powerful functionality to copy data from one feature source to another, either in the same format or in a different one. Ex. Oracle Spatial 9i/ 10g, MySQL 5, Microsoft SQL Server 2000/ 2003 and ESRI ArcSDE ... It really provide the user a very efficient way. But it cannot use for DWG to any other format.
