This is the new feature of MapGuide Enterprise 2010 and MapGuide Studio 2010. IN the previous version, it need to modify the map file to access the external file. Now we can make use of the GUI to do all procedure.

What is the external file?
Sometime it called alias folder. Those file was stored in another server or location of MapGuide server.

Why we need the external file?
For example, the file size of the raster image is very large. This is not possible to upload it to MapGuide server.
